History & Mission Statement
The Frackville Area Municipal Authority (FAMA), is a municipal authority, incorporated and organized under the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Act of 1945, approved May 2, 1945, P.L. 382, as amended and supplemented, of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, this Authority having been incorporated pursuant to appropriate action of the Council of the Borough of Frackville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, duly taken on August 13, 1979 with business offices located at 42 South Center Street, Suite 113, Frackville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. FAMA provides sewage services for the Borough of Frackville and portions of Butler Township, West Mahanoy Township and Gilberton Borough located within the 17931 zip code. In addition, service is also provided to the State Correctional Institution Frackville (SCI Frackville) located in Ryan Township.
FAMA’s Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) is located at 1199 West Oak Street, Butler Township, Frackville, Pennsylvania. The treatment facility went online in the spring of 1994 after approximately one-year of construction commencing March 1993.
